About me
Jaeseok Choi is a Jesuit priest and a first-year M.A. student in the Department of Philosophy at Boston College. He received his B.S. in Civil Engineering and his M.S. in Urban Planning from Seoul National University in South Korea. He also holds an M.A. in Philosophy and an M.Div. (Master of Divinity) from Sogang University, as well as an S.T.L. (Master of Sacred Theology) from Boston College.Fr. Choi’s academic interests lie primarily in the phenomenology of hope. He is particularly engaged with the thought of Martin Heidegger, Paul Ricoeur, Emmanuel Levinas, and Søren Kierkegaard, and seeks to develop a “hermeneutics of hope” through a synthetic engagement with their philosophies. His work aims to explore how existential and ethical dimensions of human experience can be interpreted within a theological horizon, contributing to a deeper understanding of meaning, temporality, and transcendence. In both his academic and priestly vocation, he is committed to integrating philosophical inquiry with theological reflection, especially in ways that illuminate the lived experience of faith in contemporary contexts.
